Because of the accessibility of data, we see more and more companies integrate AI and machine learning into their software. Machine learning algorithms adaptively and continuously improve their performance as the size of available to data to train with increases. How can this be applied to the flight industry? MEALS is a project which will apply machine learning to estimate the amount of fresh food meals for commercial flights. When choosing the amount of in-flights meals one wishes to satisfy the customer need, customers who want to buy should be able to, but at the same time one wants to minimise food waste and maximize sales opportunities. Food that has been taken onto a flight have broken the “cold chain”, which means that when the flight is over whatever food is left has to be thrown away. This problem of choosing the correct amount of in-flight meals, minimising food waste and maximising customer satisfaction, is exactly what MEALS is aiming to solve.
